Master Tung Ching-Chang (1916-1975) was born into a family that had practiced a unique style of acupuncture for generations. This system was passed from father to son as a treasured secret, with each generation refining and adding to the knowledge. Master Tung was the first to teach this system outside his family, initially in Taiwan.
Dr. Wei-Chieh Young
Dr. Wei-Chieh Young studied directly under Master Tung and became one of the primary transmitters of this knowledge to Western practitioners. His deep understanding of the system and its theoretical foundations influenced how it was taught and understood outside Taiwan.
Dr. Miriam Lee was a pivotal figure in bringing Tung's acupuncture to the West. She was instrumental in the legalization of acupuncture in California and became one of the most respected practitioners of her generation. She learned Master Tung's system and passed it on to a small number of dedicated students.
Susan Johnson studied extensively with both Dr. Miriam Lee and Dr. Wei-Chieh Young, receiving direct transmission of the Tung's system. Over 40+ years of practice and teaching, she has not only preserved this knowledge but advanced it through her own clinical experience and research.
In traditional Chinese medicine, knowledge passed directly from teacher to student carries something that books alone cannot convey — the clinical insights, the subtle techniques, the understanding of when and how to apply different approaches. This is why Susan's materials emphasize both comprehensive written information and video instruction. She is passing on what was passed to her.
